World War I in One-Sixth Scale

caltek Imperial German Infantryman Liege 1914Timewalker Toys has collaborated with CalTek International Corporation to produce the most remarkable 1/6 scale collectible figure produced to date. The Imperial German Infantryman, Battle of Liege, August 1914 reflects hundreds of hours of research and meticulous study of the construction of and materials used in the uniform, equipment and weaponry of the Imperial German army in the earliest days of the war.

Timewalker sourced actual military artifacts from our own collections, those of many friends and fellow collectors, and the collections of the National World War I Museum in Kansas City. Detailed, super-sized photographs of each item showed materials, color, construction techniques, and even wear patterns. These were sent on via CalTek to the development team for recreation in 1/6 scale. This was the beginning of a year-long process of prototype reviews, consultation, and innovation that resulted in the finished product you see on our website today.

Why the Battle of Liege?

The First World War was a period of transition from 19th Century military culture to the modern age. This process is clearly illustrated in the development of the uniforms and field equipment over the course of the war. August 1914 saw soldiers taking the field in bright colors, polished brasses, and bright insignia to broadcast troop movements across a field of battle. As the war progressed, the murderous efficiency of advancing technology and material shortages brought the introduction of muted colors, protective helmets and more subtle insignia.

But the early war Imperial German Infantryman still went into battle with his shining Pickelhaube, the bright-colored piping and sword knots indicating rank and division, and brilliant brass buttons stamped with the crown of the Kaiser.

Portraying the First World War

CalTek pushed the boundaries of 1/6 scale production to capture the distinctive look and feel of this iconic soldier. The Wappen, buttons, and belt buckle all bear the detailed markings of the historical examples. Special fabric was sourced to capture the unique two-tone color and texture of authentic feldgrau fabric for the tunic and trousers.
