The level of sophistication in one sixth military figures continues to improve, as exemplified in this Kaustic Plastik offering of a 2nd century Roman centurion of the Marcomannic Wars. To be sure, no one knows with certainty the various configurations of armor, given the thousand years of Roman rule and the vast territories occupied. However, there are considerable archeological references to make educated conclusions. Given the many romanticized or fantasy depictions of Roman uniforms portrayed, it is refreshing to see the accuracy of the Artorius Castus figure. The level of detail and the quality of the accoutrements, both metal and fabric, is outstanding, from the Imperial-Italic D, Krefeld-type helmet, to the phalarae (military awards). I am a stickler regarding realistic head sculpts, and this one is very good, bearing an obvious resemblance to a well-known actor in "Gladiator." All in all, an excellent addition to representational historic one sixth warriors.
